To find or dig a bottle with an SA factory or manufacturer name on it, is a rare and exciting occurrence. Following a suggestion by Mike Conradie and supported by Albert van Rensburg, this new section will dedicate itself to listing and picturing (where possible) South African Chemists Bottles.

We hope that in time to come, visitors to the website will contribute information on commencement dates, interesting anecdotes and further information regarding the Chemists mentioned.

Taking each town in alphabetical order we will picture 3 or 4 of the most interesting / unusual chemists bottles. The table on the right will list, in alphabetical order, all known chemist bottles from that town.

Towns such as Ladysmith, Grahamstown, Middelburg, ...etc which eventually yield only one or two chemists will be grouped provincially using the old terminology.

  1. Our first and only Cape Town bottle (Pretoria IS after all more than 1200 Km away) ans not strictly a Chemist but something exceptional! A. NUTTAL / HAIR DRESSER / ADDERLEY St / CAPE TOWN. Dug in an 1894 dump, this must be the earliest South African embossed bottle in my collection.
